Ruth Meehan
Ruth is an award-winning writer and director working across film and television in Ireland and the UK. A graduate of the NFTS in London, her early shorts, including And The Red Man Went Green and Numb won multiple international prizes.
Ruth first honed her skills in TV drama on the popular Virgin Media crime series Red Rock (Element Pictures) and more recently has directed the Lionsgate financed drama, Northern Lights for Deadpan Pictures, Dublin. Ruth’s debut feature, The Bright Side (2020), funded by Screen Ireland, garnered several international awards including the Audience Award at Cork International Film Festival, and is now available internationally on streaming platforms. She is currently developing three Screen Ireland backed features: as writer-director on the adaptation of Kathleen MacMahon’s Nothing But Blue Sky (O’Sullivan Productions), and as director on Gunkle (Tri Moon Films, written by Cal McGhee) and The King of the Claddagh (Zanzibar Films, written by Ailbhe Slevin).
Alongside her directing work, Ruth designs and facilitates courses as a creativity coach for the screen industry and teaches and mentors emerging talent at Bow Street, The Lir, IADT and Queen’s University Belfast. She is also a board member of the Screen Directors Guild of Ireland, and a member of the Writers Guild of Ireland and Women in Film & TV Ireland.
