Stowe Story Labs Announces WGA East Fellowship and Fellows


ANNOUNCING NEW FELLOWSHIP PARTNERSHIP WITH THE WGA EAST AND THE 2024 WGA EAST FELLOWS

Stowe Story Labs and the WGA East have partnered to offer a new fellowship to Stowe's Sidewalk Narrative Lab, which runs at the opening of the Sidewalk Film Festival in Birmingham, Alabama, August 21 - 24. The Fellowship covers the fee for a talented screenwriter/filmmaker (or team of two) to attend the August Sidewalk Narrative Lab from August 21-24, 2024.

Congratulations to the team awarded the 2024 WGA East Fellowship. We are thrilled to work with the artists and to partner with the WGA East to offer this award.

The Writers Guild of America, East, AFL-CIO (WGAE) is a labor union representing thousands of members who write content for motion pictures, television, news and online media.


WGA EAST FELLOWS:

Hallease Narvaez and Evelyn Ngugi — Atlanta, GA and Austin, TX, USA — This Coulda Been An Email // Comedy TV 1/2 hr

Logline: Following a diversity scandal, an HR associate is forced to lead the charge to fix her company’s image.

Hallease Narvaez

Hallease Narvaez Bio: Hallease is a filmmaker and digital storyteller based in Atlanta, Georgia. She developed a love of film early on in life, becoming the family photographer at the age of 13. At 16, she produced training videos for Lackland Air Force Base and realized her love of film could translate into a lifelong career. She graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a BS in Radio - Television - Film. She’s produced online original content for Google, YouTube, Spanx, Target, HEB, and others through her creative production company, StumbleWell. In 2019, she produced, directed, edited, and co-hosted season 1 of the web series Say It Loud for PBS Digital Studios. A show that educated the masses on African American history and culture through a comedic lens. She is a former YouTube Creators For Change Ambassador, Adobe Creative Resident, and YouTube Black Voices Fund recipient. When she’s not focused on producing original content, she documents her chaotic good life through her YouTube Channel – Hallease. There she explores aspects of her many identities and hobbies. In many of her documentary-style vlogs, she seeks to engage with the viewer and explore questions about the human experience and existence. In 2021, she led a successful crowdfunding campaign to produce This Coulda Been An Email the web series, and released three webisodes on her channel. To date, it has over 100,000 views and counting. The web series pilot was shown at over 12 festivals including BronzeLens in Atlanta, Georgia where it was nominated for best web series.

Evelyn Ngugi Bio: Evelyn Ngugi is an Austin-based comedy writer and online video producer dedicated to infusing important stories with humor. She co-wrote and hosted Say It Loud, PBS Digital Studio’s 15-episode series about Black history and culture. She’s a 2021 recipient of YouTube’s Black Voices Fund, and has worked with Google to create content for Michelle Obama’s global girls’ education initiative. Day to day, her viewers know her as Evelyn From The Internets via the YouTube channel she has maintained for over 10 years. From lifestyle vlogs to cultural critiques, she strives to engage and entertain viewers, like Beyoncé who featured Evelyn's Lemonade review on the Formation World Tour. Yes, that really happened.
